Jan Vella – memorial plaque unveiled



V úterý 10. května 2016 se na Kladně konalo odhalení pamětní desky u příležitosti 110. výročí narození Jana Velly. Deska je umístěna na domě, odkud v listopadu 1939 odešel z Československa, aby se mohl připojit k československým jednotkám tvořícím se ve Francii.

On Tuesday 10th May 2016 at Kladno, a memorial plaque was unveiled to commemorate the 11Oth anniversary of the birth of Jan Vella, at the house from which he left Czechoslovakia in November 1939 so that he could join Czechoslovak military units being assebled in France.

Sloužil jako pilot u 311. perutě, ale po havárii Ansonu dne 10.ledna 1945 ve skotských horách zahynul s celou osádkou.

He served as a pilot with 311 Squadron but following his Anson aircraft crashing in the Scottish mountains on 10 January 1945, he and all onboard perished in the winter conditions.

Jeho ostatky byly později sneseny z místa havárie a jsou pohřbeny na vojenském hřbitově v Brookwoodu.

His body was later recovered and is interred at Brookwood Military cemetery.
