Slovak Remembrance at Capel-le-Ferne



On the morning of 10 July 2015, an eight-man delegation from the Bratislava branch of the General Dr. M.R Štefánik Slovak Aviation Association, arrived from Bratislava to the National Battle of Britain Memorial, at Capel-le-Ferne, Kent. They were there to hold a small ceremony, to remember the 88 Czechoslovak pilots who had flown in that historic Battle and to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the formation of 310 (Czechoslovak) Sqn, the first Czechoslovak formed in the RAF, which had been formed on that day in 1940. The delegation consisted also two former pilots of the MIG-15, 86 year old man Julo Visnovsky and 88 year old man Jozko Ondrovic.

V dopoludňajších hodinách 10 júla 2015, osem členná delegácia bratislavskej pobočky Slovenského leteckého zväzu generála Dr. M. R. Štefánika, dorazila z Bratislavy do Capel- le-Ferne, Kent k pamätníku National Battle of Britain Memorial. Na pamiatku 88 československých letcov, ktorí lietali v historickej bitke a na počesť 75th výročia vzniku 310 (československej) Sqn., prvej československej stíhacej perute v RAF, ktorá bola sformovaná v tento deň roku1940 usporiadala malý spomienkový akt. Delegáciu tvorili aj dvaja bývalí piloti MIG-15, 86 ročný pán Julo Višňovký a 88 ročný pán Jožko Ondrovič.

The humble wreath laying ceremony was held by the pilot memorial to the background of an excerpt from one of Winston Churchill’s 1940 speeches. After the wreath was layer a minutes silence was observed.

Spomienkový akt bol vykonaný pri pamätníku letca, položením venca a na pozadí znel audio záznam z prejavu Winstona Churchilla z roku 1940. Po položení venca nasledovala minúta ticha.

A further wreath was laid at the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, where the names of the some 2940 Allied Battle of Britain pilots names are inscribed.

Ďalší veniec bol položený k Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, kde je vpísaných 2940 mien letcov, účastníkov Bitky o Britániu.

The delegation’s visit then continued by visiting the new ‘Wing’, where they saw a copy of the new edition of ‘Men of the Battle’ and the impressive ‘Scramble Experience’

Delegácia potom pokračovala návštevou novo otvorenej budovy „Wing“, kde si prezreli novú edíciu knihy „Men of the Battle“ a impozantnú videoprojekciu „Scramble Experience“.

Their visit concluded with a presentation of their Associations plaque to Maj. Jules Gomez, site manager of the National Battle of Britain Memorial.

Návštevu delegácia ukončila predaním pamätnej plakety Slovenského leteckého zväzu majorovi Jules Gomezovi, manažérovi National Battle of Britain Memorial.
