2018 Vzpomínková slavnost u Památníku Bitvy o Británii v Capel le Ferne.

This year’s annual ceremony by the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, at the National Memorial to the Few, was held in excellent weather on 1 July. Not only was it the 78th anniversary of the battle but also marked the 25th anniversary that the memorial was unveiled by the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and the 100th anniversary of the formation of the RAF.

Letošní vzpomínková slavnost u Národního památníku v Capel le Ferne proběhla za krásného počasí pod patronací společnosti Battle of Britain Memorial Trust. A bylo co slavit! Nejenom 78. výročí této bitvy, ale také 25. výročí slavnostního odhalení Památníku Jejím Veličenstvem královnou Alžbětou, královnou matkou a 100 let výročí založení RAF.

Guest of Honour was His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, Patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, Wing Commander Paul Farnes DFM, Battle of Britain pilot who will be 100 in two weeks time, Viscount De L’Isle MBE; Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier KCB CBE DFC ADC, Chief of the Air Staff, relatives of some of ‘The Few’, Defence Attaches from Australia Canada, Czech Republic, Poland and New Zealand, local dignitaries, invited guests, Richard Kornicki of the Polish Airmen’s Memorial Association, Artur Bildziuk of the Polish Airmen’s Association, numerous Air Training Corp squadrons from around Kent and South-East London. The Royal Air Force Central Band provided the music, numerous standards were carried by a wide range of ex-service organisations with a large number of veteran servicemen and women and well-wishers in attendance.

Ctihodným hostem byla Jeho královská Výsost, princ Michael z Kentu GCVO, společnost Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, velitel letky Paul Farnes DFM, přímý účastník Bitvy o Britanii, který za dva týdny oslaví svoje 100. narozeniny, vikomt De L’Isle MBE, Lord Lieutenant z Kentu, maršál Sir Stephen Hillier, náčelník leteckého štábu, příbuzní letců z Bitvy o Britanii, vojenští přidělenci z Austrálie, Kanady, České republiky, Polska a Nového Zélandu, místní hodnostáři, pozvaní hosté v čele s Richardem Kornickým z Polské asociace válečných letců a Artura Bildziuka z Polské letecké asociace, řada příslušníků leteckých výcvikových jednotek z okolí Kentu a jihovýchodního Londýna. Ceremoniál byl doprovázen tělesem Ústřední hudby RAF. Slavnosti se účastnila řada organizací s jejich čestnými standartami, váleční veteráni a celou akci doprovázelo množství sympatizantů.

The ceremony commenced at 13:15 with the Central Band of the RAF leading into the parade area. Standards carried by representatives of the veteran ex-Service Associations in the South East, the Kent Wing Air Training Corps, and also the Polish Air Force replica standard then followed.

Slavnostní zahájení bylo ve 13:15 za zvuků Ústřední hudby RAF, která přivedla všechny účastníky do místa slavnostní přehlídky. Standarty nesli představitelé jednotlivých složek, včetně organizací válečných veteránů, leteckých výcvikové jednotek z Kentu a nesena byla také replika standarty leteckých sil Polska.

The Royal Salute, at 13:30, was by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. Unfortunately, due to technical reasons, the usual opening flypast of a Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was not possible, but the Spitfire did perform an excellent flying display to close the ceremony.

Královský pozdrav byl přednesen ve 13:30 Jeho královskou Výsostí, princem Michalem z Kentu. Bohužel z technických důvodů nebylo možné uskutečnit v úvodu obvyklý přelet Spitfire a Huricane. Přelet letounu Spitfire nakonec celé slavnostní shromáždění zakončil.

HRH Prince Michael of Kent, accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, inspected the some 60 Standards paraded by ex-Service organisations and Air Training Corp squadrons.

Jeho královská Výsost, princ Michael z Kentu, doprovázený velitelem letectva maršálem Sir Stephenem Hillierem, pak provedl přehlídku asi 60 standart, které předvedly jednotlivé organizace a jednotky leteckých výcvikových středisek.

On returning from their inspection, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier gave a speech welcoming all to the ceremony. Further speeches followed and then a Service of Commemoration conducted by the Venerable Ray Pentland, CB, Hon Chaplain Battle of Britain Memorial Trust and Battle of Britain Fighter Association, Reverend (Sqn Ldr) Matthew Buchan RAuxAF and the Reverend Brian Williams, Priest of St Radigunds, Capel-le-Ferne.

Po provedené inspekci se ujal slova velitel letectva maršál Stephen Hillier a přivítal všechny přítomné. Další projevy následovaly a poté se uskutečnil samotný vzpomínkový akt, který vedl Ctihodný kaplan Ray Pentland, reverend Matthew Buchan a reverend Brian Williams, kněz kostela sv. Radigunda, Capel-le-Ferne.

Wreaths were then laid at the Memorial by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Viscount De L’Isle, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, local dignitaries, representatives of various RAF Associations, the Polish Airmen’s Memorial Association, Polish Airmen’s Association, local councils, Capel-le-Ferne primary school and Defence Attache’s representing Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, New Zealand and Poland.

Jeho královská Výsost, princ Michael z Kentu pak zahájit kladení věnců k Památníku. Následovali ho vikomt De L’Isle, velitel letectva sir Stephen Hillier, místní hodnostáři, zástupci různých sdružení RAF, Polské letecké asociace, místní rady, zástupci základní školy v Capel -le-Ferne a vojenští přidělenci, reprezentující Austrálii, Kanadu, Českou republiku, Nový Zéland a Polsko.

His HRH Prince Michael of Kent then took the salute of the marchpast as the Central Band of the RAF lead the assembled Standard bearers and Air Training Cadets out of the parade.

Jeho královská Výsost, princ Michael z Kentu pak za zvuků Ústřední hudby RAF vzdal čest závěrečnému defilé všech zúčastněných organizací, nesoucích svoje standarty.

Relatives of ‘The Few’ then went to the Christopher-Noxley Memorial Wall where Thomas Walker read his grandfather’s poem ‘Our Wall’. Guests then laid their red, white and blue flower tributes by the Memorial Wall. The floral display was further enhanced with numerous well-wishers laying flower bouquets.

Příbuzní účastníků Bitvy o Britanii pak přešli k Pamětní zdi Christopher-Noxley, kde Thomas Walker četl báseň jeho dědečka “Naše zeď”. Návštěvníci pak položili k pamětní zdi své červené, bílé a modré květy.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Spitfire arrived promptly at 15:00 to give an excellent flying display above the English Channel to close the event.

Přesně v 15.00 přeletěl nad Památníkem Bitvy o Britanii Spitfire, který celou vzpomínkovou akci symbolicky zakončil.

The Battle of Britain was a critical battle for Britain, and possibly the most important air battle in history, 2,937 RAF and Allied pilots – ‘The Few’ – fought against the German Luftwaffe. Eighty-eight of those pilots were Czechoslovak, the second largest contingent of pilots from Nazi-occupied countries in Europe and flew in 310 and 312 (Czechoslovak) as well as British RAF squadrons. During this three months-long campaign, nine of these Czechoslovak pilots were killed with others being wounded or badly burnt. All these pilots are commemorated at this site, on the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, where their names are engraved.

Bitva o Británii byla pro Velkou Británii kritickým zápasem a možná i nejdůležitější letecká bitva v historii vůbec. 2 937 pilotů RAF spolu s piloty Spojenců tvořili “Těch Pár”, kteří bojovali proti německé Luftwaffe. Osmdesát osm z nich bylo z Československa – druhý největší kontingent pilotů z nacisticky okupovaných zemí v Evropě a létali v 310. a 312 (československých) a britských perutích RAF. Během tohoto tříměsíčního období padlo devět z nich včetně řady zraněných či těžce popálených. Všichni tito českoslovenští piloti jsou připomenuti na tomto místě, na pamětní zdi Christophera Foxley-Norrise, kde jsou vyryta jejich jména.
