Dne 17. ledna 2014 se příslušníci úřadu přidělence obrany setkali na velvyslanectví České republiky v Londýně se Skotským spisovatelem panem Hamish Ross. Hamish Ross je autorem knihy “Freedom in the Air” vyprávějící o životě československého příslušníka RAF, Václava Roberta Bozděcha a jeho psa Antise, kteří byli příslušníky 311. Československé bombardovací perutě.

Members of the Defence Attaché Office met with Mr. Hamish Ross, a Scottish author, at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London on 17 Jan 2014. Hamish Ross is the author of the book “Freedom in the Air“, which tells a story of the life of Václav Robert Bozděch, a Czechoslovak airman serving in the RAF and his dog Antis, who were members of 311 (Czechoslovak) Bomber squadron.

V osobním příběhu Václava Roberta Bozděcha a jeho druha, psa Antise, nositele PDSA Dickin medaile, lze spatřovat symbol věrnosti nejen mezi letcem a jeho psem, ale i touhu tehdejších příslušníků československé armády přinést svobodu utlačovanému národu. Příběh je trpkým popisem válečného odporu proti nacizmu a pozdější proměny osvobozeného Československa v zemi, jejíž komunistický režim považoval válečné hrdiny ze Západu za zrádce.

In the personal story of Václav Robert Bozděch and his mate, Antis the dog who who was awarded the PDSA Dickin’s Medal – the animals equivalent of the Victoria Cross – one can see the symbol of the loyality not only between the airman and his dog, but also the desire of the members of the Czechoslovak Army of those days to bring freedom to their oppressed homeland. The story is a bitter recollection of wartime resistance against Nazism and the later transformation of liberated Czechoslovakia into a country, whose Communist regime considered the war heroes from the West to be traitors.

U příležitosti setkání předali přidělenec obrany a vojenský přidělenec panu Rossovi za přítomnosti jeho manželky Elisabeth pamětní medaili ministra obrany ČR u příležitosti vzniku Československé republiky. Pan Hamish Ross svým výjimečným přičiněním přispěl k šíření tradic a dobrého jména československé armády bojující za 2. světové války po boku spojenců ve Velké Británii.

At the occasion of this meeting, the Defence Attaché and the Military Attaché awarded Mr. Ross in the presence of his wife Elisabeth, a commemorative medal awarded by the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic to commemorate the creation of the Czech Republic. Mr Hamish Ross contributed by his exceptional endeavour in the spreading of the traditions and good name of the Czechoslovak Armed forces fighting during WW II alongside the Allies in Great Britain.
