Sgt Josef Rechka claimed a probably destroyed an Me.110 at 17:35 hours on 09/09/40. south west of London, whilst piloting this aircraft. This enemy aircraft was possibly Me.110 L1+DL (Werk No. 3298), which is recorded as being shot down by fighters (It is probable that this aircraft was also attacked by F/O Stanislav Fejfar and P/O Vaclav Bergman of 310 Sqn). The Messerschmitt crashed on the Maori Sports Club, Old Malden Lane, Worcester Park, Surrey at approximately 18:00 hours. The crew consisted of Uffz Pfafflhuber and Uffz Kramp, who were both killed.

Only a few days later with Flt/Lt Denys Gillam at the controls, it was one of three involved in the shooting down of Ju.88A (Wrk No 4068) M7+DK of 2/KGr806, over Liverpool on 08/10/40.

P2989	I	Trans from Air Fighting Development Unit (AFDU) to 312 Sqn then to 607 Sqn.

P3056 NN-C	I	310 Sqn. Converted to Sea Hurricane 4/41 then trans to the Admiralty.	Sqn/Ldr Alexander Hess claimed to have destroyed a Do.215 and an Me.109 south east of Hornchurch hours on the 31/08/40. whilst flying this aircraft. The enemy Dornier was almost certainly a Do.17-Z (3264) of 4/KG3, coded 5K+KM. It made a forced landing near Eastwick Farm, Burnham on Crouch at 13:25 hours, after coming under attack from Hess and F/O Clyde of 601 Sqn. Of the German crew, Oberfw Bulach was wounded and became a POW, as was Uffz Bock (who died three days later) Oblt Gahrfz and Gefr Neumann were capture and became POW’s. P/O Emil Fechtner claimed an Me.110 as shot down over North Weald at 10:40 hours on 03/09/40. whilst flying this aircraft.
P3069 NN-B	I	Trans from No1 Sqn RCAF to 310 then to 306 Sqn.
P3142 NN-M	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 43 Sqn.	This aircraft took part in 310 Sqn’s first operational patrol on 17/08/40 with P/O Frantisek Rypl as pilot. P/O Emil Fechtner claimed to have downed an Me.110 in this aircraft at 1540 hours on 26/08/40.south east of Colchester. On 03/09/40. Flt/Lt Jefferies claimed to have downed an Me.110 over North Weald at 1040 hours whilst at the controls of this Hurricane. Less than a week later on 09/09/40. the aircraft crashed near Oxted, following a combat with Me.109s and after running out of fuel. P/O Rypl (s) survived and the aircraft was repaired and continued in service. Rypl claimed to have probably destroyed a Me.109 during the combat


P3143 NN-D	I	Del to 310 Sqn	Sgt Bohumil Furst claimed to have destroyed a Me.109 and to have probably destroyed a Me.110 in the area of Whitstable at approximately 17:15 hours on 07/09/40. whilst at the controls of this aircraft. The enemy Messerschmitt was probably Me.110C-4 (3570) of II/ZG2, coded A2+ML, which ditched in the Channel five mile off Birchington, Thanet, Kent, following fighter attack. The crew of Uffz Galla and Oblt Brede were both captured unhurt. This Hurricane was later to be abandoned near Ely, Cambridgeshire on 16/10/40 after the aircraft began to emit white smoke from the engine. 787659 Sgt Jan Chalupa (k) baled out but his parachute failed to open and he was killed.
P3148 NN-N & Q?	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to Service Ferry Pool (SFP).	This aircraft, with P/O Emil Fechtner in the cockpit, took part in 310 Sqn’s first operational patrol on 17/08/40.
P3156	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 9 FTS.	P/O Stanislav Zimprich claimed an Me.109 as shot down whilst flying this aircraft on 31/08/40.
P3157	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to AAEE.	This aircraft was damaged in combat with Me.109s over the Thames Estuary and mad a forced landed near Upminster at 15:15 hours on 26/08/40. Sgt Eduard Prchal (i) was slightly wounded and the aircraft was repairable. Prchal later claimed a Do.215 as probably shot down in the course of this encounter at 15:40 hours.
P3159	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	Shot down by Me.109s over the Thames Estuary at 13:30 hours on 31/08/40.The pilot 81901 P/O Jaroslav Sterbacek (k) did not survive. The aircraft crashed to the ground south of Wennington Church, near Romford. (Sterbacek was the first Czech airman casualty in Britain).

This aircraft collided with Hurricane P3889 over Duxford at 1510 hours on 29/10/40 It made forced landing and the pilot Flt/Lt Josef Maly (s) survived the crash, but was to die in June 1941 as a result of the injuries received. The aircraft was repaired and later returned to service.
P3759	I	Trans from 607 Sqn to 312 Sqn.	Converted to Mk.II became DR349.
P3810	I	Del to 312 sqn.	Made a belly landing at Speke, Sgt Otmar Spacek (s) aircraft damaged. To 3257M on 11/11/40.
P3887 NN-P	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	Shot down near Maldon Essex at 15:55 hours on 26/08/40, after being hit by return fire from Dornier aircraft over Wickham Bishops. Sqn/Ldr Douglas Blackwood (s) baled out and the aircraft came down at Ninehams Rd, Kenley and was a write off. Blackwood claimed a probable Dornier 215, shot down at 1535 hours near North Weald, following the combat.


P3888 DU-O	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 312 Sqn then to 56 OTU).	Whilst piloting this aircraft, P/O John Boulton, claimed an He.111 as destroyed near Goodwin Sands at 17:35 hours on 07/09/40. Some sources suggest that only two days later this aircraft was involved in a collision with Hurricane R4084 and possibly with an enemy aircraft (see below) during a dog-fight over Clacton at 17:35 hours on 09/09/40. Reports are confusing with regard to aircraft serial numbers, but this incident appears to have resulted in the death of F/O Boulton. However 310 Sqn only record the loss of one Hurricane on the 9th September, its serial number being V7412 (see later entry), which was brought down over Croydon and it is likely that this was in fact the aircraft being flown by Boulton. The enemy aircraft brought down seems to have been mis-identified as a Dornier but was probably an Me110-C (Wrk No 3207) 2N+EP, which crashed at Woodcote Park Avenue, Woodmanstern at 1815 hours. Both crew members, Lt E Ostermunche and Gefr W Zimmerman were killed.
P3889 NN-S	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	This aircraft took part in 310 Sqn’s first operational patrol with Sgt Josef Rechka in the cockpit on 17/08/40. P/O Emil Fechtner claimed a Do.215 as shot down approximately 10 miles north east of London, whilst flying this aircraft at 13:13 hours on 31/08/40.The Hurricane suffered damage to the wings and undercarriage during the combat, but Fechtner managed to get it back to base. On 27/09/40 F/Sgt Josef Kominek, claimed to have downed an Me.109 some five miles south west of Dover whilst flying this Hurricane. Just over a month later the aircraft crashed after a collision with P3707 over Duxford at 1510 hours on 29/10/40. Unfortunately, 81887 P/O Emil Fechtner (k did not survive. (He had been awarded the DFC only two days earlier).
P3934	I	Trans from 302 Sqn to 312 Sqn then to 56 OTU.	Sgt Josef Keprt claimed a Do.17 as damaged some 15-20 miles south west of Liverpool on 29.11.40 whilst flying this Hurricane.
P3938 DU-Q	I	312 Sqn.
P3960	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	P/O Vaclav Bergman (i) was wounded and baled out following combat with a Do.17 over Clacton at 15:40 hours on 26/08/40. The aircraft came down at Rumbolds Farm, Goldsands, South Minster at 15:40 hours and was consumed by fire.
P3983 DU-G	I	Del to 312 Sqn.	There are some indications that this aircraft was ‘lost’ on 03/05/41. with Sgt. Josef Mensik at the controls. Although some records show it as being transferred to 56 OTU at a later date! Mensik was to die in a crash later in the war (on 22/04/43.) whilst serving with 68 Sqn.
P8809 NN-T	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	Crashed at Sudbury Suffolk on approach to Wattisham, 01/11/40 P/O Frantisek Vindis (s).
P8811 NN-F	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	Abandoned after being shot up by an Me.110 on 03/09/40. Sgt Josef Kopriva (s) baled out. The aircraft reputedly crashed at Rookes Farm west of Chelmsford.


P8814 NN-Y	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	P/O Miroslav Kredba (s) baled out after combat with Me.109s over the Thames Estuary at 13:30 hours 31/08/40.
R4084	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	On the 26/08/40 this aircraft returned to base with a glycol leak following an attack on a Do.17 over Clacton. F/O G Sinclair (s) and the aircraft was repairable. Sinclair claimed a Do.215 as shot down south east of Hornchurch at 13:00 hours on 31/08/40 whilst flying this aircraft. It was abandoned and crashed after combat with Me.109s on 09/09/40, following a collision with Hurricane P3888 (also of 310 Sqn). F/O G Sinclair baled out and landed in a wood near Caterham with minor injuries (sprained ankle).
R4085 NN-A	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	Sqn/Ldr Alexander Hess claimed a Do.17 and a Me.109 whilst flying this aircraft on 31/08/40. It is fairly certain that Sgt Josef Kominek was at the controls of this aircraft, when he claimed the probable destruction of a Do.215 over North Weald at approximately 1040 hours on 3.9.40.It would seem that Kominek’s attack on the enemy aircraft had an unexpected outcome. In attempting to avoid him two of the Me.110s (2133 3M+HL and 2065 3M+EK, both of 1/ZG2 collided and the port wing tip and rudder of 2133 were smashed causing it to crash at Rye Hill, Thornwood near Epping at 1050 hours. Oblt K Mueller baled out and was captured, Uffz K Korn was killed). The other Messerschmitt (2065) crashed at Hobbs Cross, Harlow, Essex at practically the same time. Fw Wagenbrett and Uffz Schubert were both killed. This Hurricane was to be shot down less than a fortnight later at 1445 hours on 15.9.40. near Billericay after damaging a Me.109 in combat. Sqn/LdrAlexander Hess baled out (s).
R4087 NN-X	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	This aircraft took part in 310 Sqn’s first operational patrol on 17/08/40 with Sgt Josef Hubacek at the controls. P/O Stanislav Zimprich claimed one probably destroyed Bf.110 and another damaged at 17:15 hours on 07/09/40 over the Thames Estuary. The aircraft was again in action on 09/09/40 when Sgt Josef Hubacek claimed a Bf.110 as probably destroyed at 17:40 hours south west of London. This Hurricane was shot down by Bf.109s near Chatham at 1430 hours on 15/09/40. Sgt Hugo Herbacek (s) baled out and suffered slight injuries. The aircraft came down at Pitsea, Essex.
R4089 NN-R	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	This aircraft took part in 310 Sqn’s first operational patrol on 17/08/40 with Flt/Lt Jerrard Jefferies in the cockpit. Jefferies claimed a Do.215 as shot down south east of Hornchurch at 13:00 hours on 31/08/40 whilst flying this aircraft. it was damaged by Me.109s and belly landed at Hornchurch on 05/11/40. Flt/Lt Jefferies (s) survived and although the aircraft was damaged it was later repaired and became 4504M 2/44.

V6542	I	Trans from 43 Sqn to 312 Sqn.	Crashed out of fuel near Carnforth on 15/10/40. Flt/Lt H Comerford (s).
V6556 NN-E	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 315 Sqn.	Whilst flying this aircraft on 3.9.40. Sgt Bohumil Furst claimed an Me.110 as destroyed south of Chelmsford at 1040 hours P/O Svatopluk Janouch claimed an Me.110 as destroyed at 1715 hours near Grays Thurrock on 7.9.40 whilst flying in this aircraft.Janouch was involved in attacking Me.110D (3334 A2+NH) of II/ZG2 over London. The enemy aircraft was also attacked by F/O Holderness of 1 Sqn and Flt/Lt Lane of 19 Sqn. It crashed at Park Corner Farm, Hacton Lane, Hornchurch at 1710 hours. Lt K Schunemann baled out but his parachute didn’t deploy properly and he was killed. Uffz H Meschede also baled out too low and fell to his death at Franks Cottages, St Mary’s Lane, Cranham.

V6608 NN-B	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 260 Sqn.	P/O Vaclav Bergman claimed a Do.215 (later confirmed as a Do.17) as shot down over the Thames Estuary on 18.9.40. whilst at the controls of this aircraft. It was to be Shot down only a week later over Thanet, Kent at 1220 hours on 27.9.40. F/O G Sinclair baled out (s). The aircraft came down at Woodsdale Farm, Godmersham, nr Canterbury and Sinclair came down at Chilham.
V6619 NN-V	I	Del to 310 Sqn.	Abandoned after oxygen failure on 05/11/40. The system suffered a failure after being damaged in combat with Me.109s over Kent and the aircraft went out of control. Sgt Rajmund Puda baled out (s).
V6621	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 253 Sqn.	Returned to base damaged after combat over the Thames Estuary at 13:40 hours. On 26/08/40 P/O Jaroslav Maly (s) aircraft repairable. Maly claimed to have shot down an Me.109 south east of Hornhurch in this aircraft at 15:25 hours on 31/08/40.

V7066 DU-T	I	Del to 312 Sqn.	Missing 10/04/41 following combat with a Do.17 south west of Bardsey Island. The aircraft was hit by return fire and crashed into the sea, 40213 F/Lt Alexander Dawbarn (m) did not manage to escape from the stricken Hurricane.

V7304 NN-O	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 255 Sqn.	Whilst flying this aircraft on 09/09/40 P/O Stanislav Zimprich claimed an Me.110 as damaged at 1735 hours south west of London. The enemy aircraft was probably not a Me.110 but more probably Heinkel He111H-3 (5713 V4+BL) of 3/KG1 which was attacked by Zimprich and by Sgt Phillipe of 607 Sqn. With its cooling system damaged and one engine out, the stricken Heinkel made forced landing at Sundridge near Sevenoakes at 1800 hours. Oblt Kiunka, Uffz Stumbaum and Gefr Reinecke were taken prisoner, as was Oberfw Heidrich, who had baled out. Only six days later, Sgt Josef Kominek claimed a Do.215 as destroyed near Tunbridge Wells at 12:00 hours on 15/09/40. whilst flying this Hurricane.
V7405 NN-G	I	Del to 310 Sqn then to 501 Sqn.	On 09/09/40 whilst flying this aircraft, P/O Vaclav Bergman claimed a Me.110 as destroyed south west of London at 17:40 hours.(See above under P2715 for probable details of this incident).

The body of 787672 Sgt Alois Dvorak was not found until 25/09/41.

Greetings John Rennison,
We are the current owners of aircraft Z2768 that was sent on to Russia and subsequently lost in combat. It is fairly intact, but without the wings, which we are in the process of rebuilding. Do you have any further information about this aircraft and its history in the UK? If you would like, we could send to you a photo of this aircraft in its restored condition. We would like to trade it for some other similar project.
