Alsterufer – 80. výročí

On 27 December 1943, the SS Alsterufer, a German blockade runner, en-route from Japan to Bordeaux, France, was sunk by by 311 (Czechoslovak) Sqn Liberator PP-H BZ7960. It was sunk some 800 miles out into the Atlantic as it was attempting to reach the safety at Bordeaux.

27. prosince 1943 potopil bombarder 311. (československé) perutě Liberator PP-H BZ7960 německou loď (lamač blokád) SS Alsterufer na cestě z Japonska do Bordeaux ve Francii. Byla potopena asi 800 mil od pobřeží v Biskajském zálivu, když se pokoušela dostat do bezpečí přístavu v Bordeaux.

This action was the biggest success that the squadron achieved during WW2. Indeed, in the opinion of Dr. Jiří Rajlich of the Military Historical Institute, Prague, who is the leading Czech aviation historian and author on the Czechoslovak RAF with numerous books to his credit on this subject:

Tato akce byla největším úspěchem, kterého tato peruť během 2. světové války dosáhla. Soudí tak Dr. Jiří Rajlich z Vojenského historického ústavu Praha, který je předním českým leteckým historikem a autorem řady knih o československých letcích v řadách RAF:

“In my opinion it was the biggest single blow planted by the Czechoslovak Air Force to the Nazi war machine.”

“Podle mého názoru to byl největší úder, který zasadilo Československé letectvo nacistické válečné mašinérii.”
