Malá pietní oslava na paměť 71. výročí RAF Operace Circus 157 proběhla 5.5. 2013 v podvečerních hodinách na vojenském hřbitově CWGC Ypres Town Extension v Ypres v belgických Flandrách.
A discreet remembrance act commemoration the 71st anniversary of the RAF Operation Circus 157 took place on 5th May 2013 at dusk at the Ypres Town Extension CWGC military cemetery in Ypres, Belgian Flanders.
Umístila jsem pamětní křížky k hrobům tří sestřelených pilotů RAF – Čecha SGT Karla Pavlíka, 313 Sqn, Kanaďana Sgt Joffrey Ribouta, 122 Sqn, a Brita F/Sgt Stacey Jonese, 122 Sqn a též k místu, kde byl kdysi pohřben i čtvrtý, belgický pilot – F/Lt Baudouin de Hemptinne, 122 Sqn (dnes přemístěn na čestné pohřebiště belgických pilotů v Evere).
I placed remembrance crosses at the graves of the three shot down RAF pilots – a Czech Sgt Karel Pavlík, 313 Sqn, Canadian SGT Joffrey Ribout, 122 Sqn, British F/Sgt Stacey Jones also of 122 Sqn and also to the place where once was buried a Belgian pilot, F/Lt Baudouin de Hemptinne, 122 Sqn (who today rests in peace at the honorary Belgian military pilots´ cemetery in Evere).
Po minutě ticha jsem na paměť padlých pilotů zarecitovala „Připomenutí“ a zazpívala československou hymnu.
After a minute of silence I recited the “ Exhortation“ for the fallen and concluded by singing the Czechoslovak anthem.
Spolu s manželem jsme se poté zúčastnili slavnostního ceremoniálu Poslední večerky pod prvoválečným vojenským památníkem – Meninskou branou v Ypres. Shodou okolností byl výjimečně přítomen i kaplan vojenského britského kostela Sv Jiří v Ypres, sám bývalý příslušník RAF, otec Brian Llewellyn, který přednesl modlitbu za padlé. Po zatroubení večerky a během pokládání věnců na památku padlých přítomný mužský chór z Walesu zazpíval krásnou hymnu Ó, statečná srdce, bezpochyby i k poctě oněch čtyř statečných pilotů RAF sestřelených nedaleko Ypres během RAF Operace Circus 157.
Together with my husband we then attended the special Last Post ceremony under the Menin Gate Memorial to the (Great War) Missing in Ypres. Coincidentally, also the chaplain of the St George´s Memorial Church in Ypres, himself a retired Sqn Leader in the RAF, Father Brian Llewellyn was present. He recited a prayer for the fallen. After the sounding of the Last Post and during the placing of the wreaths, male choir from Wales sang the beautiful hymn Oh, Valiant Hearts, without a doubt also in honour of those four gallant pilots shot down and killed near Ypres during the Operation Circus 157.
