The 75th Anniversary to commemorate the Battle of Britain was held on 12 July 2015 at the National Battle of Britain Memorial, at Capel-le-Ferne, Kent.

Připomínka k 75. výročí bitvy o Británii se konala 12. července 2015 u Národního památníku Bitvy o Británii v Capel le Ferne, Kentu.

In this critical battle for Britain, and possibly the most important air battle in history,  2,936 RAF pilots – ‘The Few’ – fought in the Royal Air Force against the German Luftwaffe. Eighty eight of those pilots were Czechoslovak, the second largest contingent of pilots from Nazi occupied countries in Europe. During this three month long campaign, nine of these Czechoslovak pilots were killed with others being wounded or badly burnt. All these pilots are commemorated at this site, on the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, where their names are engraved.

V této kritické bitvě o Británii a pravděpodobně nejdůležitější letecké bitvě v historii, malé množství 2936 pilotů RAF bojovalo v Royal Air Force proti přesile Německé Luftwaffe. Z těchto bojovníků bylo 88 československých letců, druhé největší skupiny pilotů z nacisty okupovaných zemí v Evropě. Během této tři měsíce trvající letecké bitvy přišlo o život 9 československých letců a mnoho dalších utrpělo zranění, převážně to byly vážné popáleniny. Všichni tito piloti jsou připomínáni svými vyrytými jmény na pamětní zdi pamětního místa Foxley Christopher Norris.

Guest of Honour was His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, Patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, Dariusz Łaska, Deputy Ambassador Polish Embassy London, Viscount De L’Isle MBE; Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford KCB CBE ADC RAF, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal Mike Yardley, Chief of the New Zealand Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon GCB CBE; Chairman of the Battle Of Britain Memorial Trust, relatives of some of ‘The Few’ , local dignitaries, invited guests , Richard Kornicki of the Polish Airmen’s Memorial Association, Air Training Corp squadrons from around Kent and South-East London and despite the overcast, wet and windy conditions a large number of veteran servicemen and women and spectators.

The ceremony commenced at 13:15 with the Central Band of the RAF leading into the parade area. Standards carried by representatives of the veteran ex-Service Associations in the South East, the Kent Wing Air Training Corps, and also the Polish Air Force replica standard then followed.

Ceremonie byla zahájena ve 13:15 hlavním shromážděním RAF v čele promenády. Za RAF následovaly vlajky nesené zástupci sdružení veteránů bývalých údržeb z jihovýchodu, letky výcvikového leteckého sboru z Kentu a také replika standardy polských leteckých sil.

At 13:25, despite the wet and windy weather, Battle of Britain pilots W/Cdr Paul Farnes, W/Cdr Terry Kane, W/Cdr Tom Neil, S/Ldr Tony Pickering, S/Ldr Geoff Wellum, F/Lt Terry Clark and F/O Ken Wilkinson paraded by the pilots memorial.

Ve 13:25 se v průvodu navzdory deštivému a větrnému počasí objevili piloti z Bitvy o Británii W/Cdr Paul Farnes, W/Cdr Terry Kane, W/Cdr Tom Neil, S/Ldr Tony Pickering, S/Ldr Geoff Wellum, F/Lt Terry Clark a F/O Ken Wilkinson pochodovalo piloty památníku.

The Royal Salute, at 13:30, was by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. Unfortunately due to the bad weather, the usual flypast of a Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight had been cancelled.

Královský pozdrav se konal ve 13:30 za přítomnosti Jeho královského veličenstva Prince Michaela z Kentu. Kvůli nepřízni počasí byly bohužel zrušeny průlety letadel Spitfire a Hurricane z připonínkového letu Bitvy o Británii.

HRH Prince Michael of Kent, accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon, was introduced to the seven veteran Battle of Britain pilots. They then, accompanied by Sir Michael Graydon, Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford, Air Vice-Marshal Mike Yardley and Commandant of the Air Cadets Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty, inspected the some 60 Standards paraded by ex-Service and Air Training Corp squadrons.

Jeho královské veličenstvo Princ Michael z Kentu, doprovázené velitelem letectva Sirem Michaelem Graidonem, bylo představeno sedmi pilotům – veteránům z Bitvy o Británii. Ti poté, doprovázeni sirem Michaelem Graidonem, velitelem letectva sirem Andrewem Pulfordem, vicemaršálem letectva Mikem Yardleym a komandantem leteckých kadetů, leteckým komodorem Dawnem McCaffertym, prováděli prohlídku ca 60 standard nesených v průvodu bývalými jednotkami údržby a skvadronami výcvikových sborů.

On returning from their inspection, Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon gave a speech welcoming all to the ceremony. This followed by a Service of Commemoration conducted by the Venerable Ray Pentland, CB, Hon Chaplain Battle of Britain Memorial Trust and Battle of Britain Fighter Association, Reverend (Sqn Ldr) Matthew Buchan RAuxAF and the Reverend Brian Williams, Priest of St Radigunds, Capel-le-Ferne.

Po návratu z inspekce vlajek měl letecký velitel Sir Michael Graidon uvítací proslov k celé ceremonii. Ten byl následovaný výroční mší vedenou ctihodným Rayem Pentlandem, CB, čestným kaplanem nadace památníku Bitvy o Británii a asociace bojovníků v Bitvě o Británii, dále reverendem (Sqn Ldr) Mathewem Buchanem (RAF) a reverendem a reverendem Brianem Williamsem, knězem ze S. Radiguns, Capel-le-Ferne.

Wreaths were then layed at the Memorial by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Viscount De L’Isle, Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford, Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon, Air Vice-Marshal Mike Yardley, , local dignitaries, representatives of various RAF Associations, the Polish Airmen’s Memorial Association, local councils, Capel-le-Ferne primary school and Defence Attache’s representing Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, France, New Zealand, Poland with Dariusz Łaska, Slovak Republic and the United States.

Poté byly na památník položeny věnce Jeho veličenstvem princem Michaelem z Kentu, vikomtem De L´Isle, velitelem letectva Sirem Andrewem Pulfordem, velitelem letectva Sirem Michaelem Graidonem, vicemaršálem Mikem Yardleym, místními hodnostáři, zástupci různých sdružení RAF, asociace památníku polských letců, místních úřadů, základní školy z Capel-le-Ferne a atašé obrany reprezentující Austrálii, Kanadu, Českou republiku, Francii, Nový Zéland, Polsko s Dariuszem Łaskou, Slovensko a USA.

Col. Jiří Svatos, the new Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the Czech Republic, London and by Col. Milan Gavlas, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic, London, laid wreaths on behalf of their countries.

Plukovník Milan Gavlas, atašé obrany na ambasádě Slovenské rupubliky v Londýně, a plukovník Jiří Svatoš, nový atašé obrany na ambasádě České republiky v Londýně, položili věnce za své země.

Amongst the numerous wreaths laid at the ceremony was a wreath by the Prague branch of the Československá obey legionářská.

Mezi mnoha věnci položenými během pietního aktu byli věnec Československé obce legionářské z Prahy.​

Concluding speech was by Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford who outlined the changing role of the RAF today and how the Services roots were based on the achievements and endeavours of ‘The Few’.

Závěrečná řeč byla edena leteckým velitelem Sirem Andrewem Pulfordem, který zmínil měnící se roli RAF v současnosti a byly základy RAF položeny na činech a snažení “The Few”.

His HRH Prince Michael of Kent then took the salute of the marchpast as the Central Band of the RAF lead the assembled Standard bearers and Air Training Cadets out of the parade.

Jeho veličenstvo princ Michael z Kentu poté provedl pozdrav k aktérům proběhlé promenády hlavnímu shromáždění RAF, vlajkonošům a kadetům leteckého výcviku.

Relatives of ‘The Few’ then went to the Christopher-Noxley Memorial Wall where Mr Thomas Walker read his grandfather’s poem ‘Our Wall’. Guests then laid their red, white and blue flower tributes by the Memorial Wall. The floral display was further enhanced with numerous well-wishers laying flower bouquets.

Příbuzní “The Few” poté šli k památné zdi Christopher-Noxley, kde pan Thomas Walker četl báseň svého praotce “Naše zeď”. Hosté poté položili jejich rudé, bílé a modré květiny k poctě u této památné zdi. Na místo položenými květinami byly později položeny květinové bukety mnoha dalšími lidmi.

Air Vice-Marshal Mike Yardley laid his floral tribute by the memorial to fellow New Zealander Air Chief Marshall Sir Keith Parks who was Air Officer Commanding 11 Group during the Battle of Britain.

Letecký vicemaršál Mike Yardley položil svou květinovou poctu u památníku kolegy leteckého velitele Sira Keitha Parkse, který byl leteckým důstojníkem velícím jedenácté skupině během Bitvy o Británii.

Unfortunately, the inclement weather also caused the traditional Spitfire and Hurricane flying display – scheduled this year to be two of each aircraft – to be cancelled.

​Bohužel nepřízeň počasí také zapříčinila, že tradiční přelet Spitfirů a Hurricanů – letos byly naplánovány dva letouny každého typu – byl zrušen.
